Managing Your Content03 Dec 10
Pinging Search Engines is a way of telling search engines that content in your website (containing any kind of feed format) has changed. This is an effective way of telling the internet that a particular content can be sourced first from your website, therefore protecting your content from "scrapers". There are possibly millions of websites that have most of their content scraped from other sources. As you can imagine, search engine logic find it difficult to determine where the content actually originated from.
Whenever you publish new feed-based content (e.g. blogs) in your website, make sure you ping the major search engines like Technorati and Google. You can ping google directly by going here:
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping
Otherwise, you can use Ping-O-matic to ping the search engines automatically for you.
Another useful tip to protect your content is to include an absolute link back to your website in your article. That way, when your content is scraped, the article will contain an absolute link back to your website, which effectively verifies the content’s original source. keywords: pinging search engines, original content, ping-o-matic, technorati, google
