Mole Removal Surgery | PR What are Moles? Exposure to sun and genetics also plays a role in development of moles. Mole Removal Surgery Moles can be cut followed by stitches or they can be burned using a tool called cauterization. A doctor or dermatologist decides which method to use depending on the depth of the mole. Before a mole is removed, the area to be treated is prepared by cleansing the surface. Anaesthetic is used to numb the area, and a drape may be used over the area depending on the size of the mole or the removal method to be used. The mole can then be removed by cutting with a scalpel slightly below the level of the skin. Bleeding can be stopped through burning using an electrical equipment or by using a special solution. If the cut is large, stitches are used instead to stop the bleeding.
